University of California San Francisco 10/02 – 2/06
Administrative Nurse IV – Patient Care Manager for 22 operating
room suite that performs over 12,000 complex surgical procedures
per year. Span of control includes Manager Support Services, 4 Assistant
Patient Care Managers and 7 Clinical Supervisors and an FTE count
of 220 including anesthesia support cost center. Collaborates with
Business Manager on budgetary accountability for 16 million dollar
labor and 33 million dollar supply budget. Accomplishments during
tenure as PCM include: dramatic decrease in traveler positions, initiation
of Surgical Technician Training Program, inclusion of PCM role in
business decisions of the department, restructuring of management
of department to meet markets trends in health care delivery systems
and implementation of a new IT system including an electronic nursing
record.
Kaiser Resource Network 6/98 – present
Administrative House Supervisor - Responsible for patient care activities
during assigned shifts. Accountable for staffing to volume, budgetary
compliance, evaluating delivery of patient care, and addressing
concerns of staff members, physicians and patients.
Centinela Hospital Medical Center 5/97 - 6/99
Director Surgery Services - 24 hour responsibility for Operating
Room Services which includes Main and Day Surgery clinical areas.
Accountability for 85 FTE benefited positions and a total budget
of 12 million dollars. Accountable to decrease operating costs
on a per case basis, develop physician business and create an environment
that is service oriented, collaborate on new business including
the spine center, total joint center and the cardiac center programs.
Compliance with all TENET corporate and regional initiatives. Accountable
to develop a department that functions as a cost effective and
profitable franchise of a major corporation.
Jefferson Regional Medical Center 1/96 - 5/97
Director Surgical Services - 24 hour responsibility for Surgical
Services Department which incorporates inpatient services: Preadmission
Unit, Holding Unit, 12 operating room suites, 18 bed recovery room
and outpatient services: Ambulatory Surgery Center Holding Area,
6 operating room suites, and 8 bay post anesthesia care unit. Accountability
for defining systems that promote quality patient care, JCAHO compliance,
fiscal compliance, and new programs for surgical patient populations.
New projects included starting a Pain Clinic marketed to the community
and adherence to state regulations, developed a breast surgery
minimally invasive program and networked with community hospitals
in Southeast Arkansas to initiate program for preoperative services
for patients referred to the medical center from outlying communities.
San Mateo County General Hospital 4/95 - 1/96

Kaiser Permanente Medical Center 12/88 - 7/94
Administrative Manager Perioperative Services - San Francisco (2/92-7/94)
24-hour responsibility for nursing unit activities and delivery of
patient care in a 20 bed Ambulatory Care Unit, 10 room surgical suite,
19 bed Post Anesthesia Care Unit. Department structured to maintain
compliance with JCAHO and Title 22 regulatory standards. Involved
with implementation of ORSOS system, CQI projects, construction and
planning of 27 bed ACU & GI lab. Coordinated Free Surgery Program
for San Francisco County, developed business plan to consolidate
transfusion services for West Bay Kaiser facilities and consolidated
ancillary campus to decrease inpatient beds.
Nurse Educator - Oakland (1/90-1/92) / San Francisco (2/92-9/92)
Inservicing and training of Perioperative Services nursing staff
member. Orientation of staff. Development of Perioperative Nursing
Postgraduate course and Operating Room Technician 9 month training
program in collaboration with community college. Staff educational
programs developed to maintain compliance with JCAHO, Title 22,
and Department of Agriculture regulatory standards. Participation
on multiple hospital nursing and interdisciplinary committees.
Administrative House Supervisor - French Campus (12/88 - 1/90)
Responsibility for patient care activities including supervising
and directing staff on medical-surgical units, ICU and Emergency
Department. Accountable for staffing to volume, budgetary compliance,
